Congress spokesman Manish Tewari also made a strong pitch for the CBI to stop taking up further cases till its legality is adjudicated. He said that the Gauhati High Court through an order on November 6, 2016 had declared CBI as an illegal organisation.
Noting that the CBI comes under the administrative control of a department under the Prime Minister, he said that the suicide of B K Bansal and his son needed to be probed to reveal whether they were privy to some deep secrets.
In suicide notes purportedly written by the former Corporate Affairs Director General and his son, it was alleged that a CBI DIG, two women officers and a "fat" Havaldar of the agency had tortured the tainted official's wife and daughter after which both had committed suicide in July.
In the wake of the allegations against its officials, CBI today constituted an internal inquiry to look into them.
Noting that the legitimacy of the CBI hangs by the thread of a Supreme Court Order, he wanted the Government to approach the Supreme Court to adjudicate over the issue of legality of the CBI.
