Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa today ridiculed SAD's 'Sadhbhavna' rally in Punjab's Bathinda district today and said that it was Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal's keenness to send his CM father Parkash Badal on pilgrimage to make way for his ascendency.
Accusing Badal of fomenting trouble and putting Punjab "aflame", Bajwa demanded that the chief minister should appear before the Akal Takht and apologise for his "sins".
"Sending Badal on yatra is the real objective of the so called Tirath Yatra Programme that has been announced by the state government," he said in a statement, adding that the junior Badal is "misleading" people.
"He should have been frank enough to confess the guilt of his own and Akali Dal in supporting the forces of terrorism on 1980 and everything is on the record. One fails to understand to whom is Badal trying to befool. He should appear at Akal Takht to apologise for his sins of putting Punjab aflame," the Punjab Congress president said.
Accusing Badal of "fooling" people, he said he was again trying to put Punjab on fire by making allegations far from reality as he himself has been supporting radicals in the past
He said it was not a sadhbhavna rally but once again a "cunning move" to flare up emotions of people for his political gains as he did in the past.
Bajwa said he had given this nomenclature as both father and son contradicted each other again today and that too in the presence of each other with the Chief Minister, asserting that it was not a political or electoral rally while his son sounded the bugle for Assembly elections 2017.
"Whom are they trying to befool by taking such postures as the Deputy Chief Minister ended his speech by asking the people to raise the slogan to vote for the Akali Dal in the next Assembly election to realize his dream to rule over Punjab which, in real term, can be translated as to loot Punjab," he said.
He ridiculed Badal saying he was trying to "pose as the staunchest champion" of communal harmony, unity and integrity, while in practice, he was among those who set Punjab aflame in 1980's and it was the Congress Chief Minister Beant Singh who restored peace after a decade and a half for which he made the supreme sacrifice.
"Badal is a PhD in politics of opportunism and changing his stance and idiom depending upon the situation. The man who signed the Khalistan memorandum along with Simranjit Singh Mann submitted to UN Secretary General is now talking of Sadbhavna and blaming the Congress," he said.
