Suryawanshi was earlier the CEO of Kolhapur zilla parishad in western Maharashtra and was instrumental in modernising the rural public health centres (PHCs) in that district.
The 'Kolhapur model' of PHCs transformation has been adopted by the state government as the basis for improving the quality of services in other PHCs across the state, a Mantralaya official said.
