Suspected Maoists damage cable provider's office in Nepal

Suspected Maoists today destroyed the central tower of Dish Home, Nepal's only Direct-to-Home service provider, protesting the ongoing blockade by Indian-origin Madhesis at key border points with India, affecting transmission of services.
The attack that caused a damage of Rs 2 crore came days after restriction on Indian television channels were lifted in the country.
An unidentified group of six people who came in six motorcycles hurled petrol bombs at the Dish Home office situated at Bhaisepati in the outskirts causing a damage of around Rs 2 crore, police said.
Netra Bikram Chand Biplab-led CPN Maoist has been threatening the cable operators against airing of Indian television channels to show protest against the blockade in southern Nepal.

The digital satellite service provider's office and its central tower was completely damaged following the explosion. All the television programmes aired by the Dish Home was disrupted for two hours after the incident.
All transmission of Dish Home, including Indian television channels, have stopped following the attack.

However, even after initial repairing, services of only half of the television channels were resumed.
Police have launched investigation to nab the people involved in the incident.
Madhesis, the Indian-origin inhabitants of the Terai region are agitating over the new Constitution demanding more representation. They are also protesting division of their ancestral homeland under the seven-province structure and have led an ongoing blockade of key border trade points with India.
