Suspected to be a false voter ethnic Indian attacked in M'asia

The victorious Barisan Nasional has alleged that several Malaysians, including an ethnic Indian man, were roughed up by supporters of the opposition alliance, thinking they were phantom voters.
A Facebook the supporters of Barisan Nasional (BN) said several people were attacked yesterday by a section of opposition supporters, who apparently assumed they were Bangladeshis based on their looks.
The National Registration Department later issued a statement saying that one of the person assaulted was an ethnic Indian named Rameish Raman Ramalingam, born in Pahang, Malaysia.
"We would like to stress that the citizenship status of an individual is based on parentage at birth and not on physical characteristics, religion, race or ancestry," the statement said.
