Suspended officer accused of abducting two cops while fleeing

In a bizarre incident, a suspended police officer, the son of a Congress MLA, allegedly abducted two police constables while fleeing from a police team in Chhattisgarh's Korba district, police said today.
Mohendra Singh Kanwar, the accused, released the two policemen later, before fleeing the area.
Mohendra, son of Rampur MLA Shyamlal Kanwar, was allegedly involved in a clash between BJP and Congress supporters in Baghapani village of the district on April 23, ahead of next day's polling, Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore said.
He had once worked as a deputy superintendent of police in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh, and was staying at his native place in Rampur after he was suspended some time ago.

Yesterday, after getting a tip-off about his whereabouts, a police team led by Rathore reached there. Spotting him sitting in an SUV, police constables got into the vehicle, however he pushed them off and drove away with two policemen inside.
He dropped them 5 km from Gorma and fled, the SP said.

Police have lodged a case against him under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 365 (kidnapping or abducting) of the Indian Penal Code.
Earlier, on April 23, BJP and Congress workers had clashed in Baghapani. The trouble started when Congress workers stopped some BJP vehicles alleging that the workers of the saffron party were distributing money.

Congress MLA Rajendra Kumar Rai was arrested the next day, while Mohendra and others absconded.
