Delhi Government has extended the 'Swachh Delhi Abhiyan' launched on November 22 for 10 more days and has directed the municipal corporations and the PWD to intensify the campaign.
"Delhi government has extended the ongoing 'Clean Delhi campaign' - Swachh Delhi Abhiyan - by 10 more days. MCD commissioners & PWD directed to intensify the campaign," Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia today wrote on Twitter.
The 10 day campaign had concluded officially on November 30 but it has been extended in view of the continuing complaints of garbage and debris received on the Swachh Delhi app, said a senior government officer.
"We have been receiving complaints of garbage through the app and will continue to work in redressing the complaints for 10 more days," said East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) Mayor Harshdeep Malhotra.
The Mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation Subhash Arya too emphasised on the need of extending days of the campaign for cleaning up garbage and debris in the national capital.
"We are working on the complaints as there is need to keep Delhi clean," he said.
The Centre, Delhi government and the three municipal corporations have joined hands to ensure effective implementation of Swachch Bharat Abhiyan in the national capital and rid the city of garbage and debris.
Launching the 'Swachch Delhi Abhiyan' on November 22, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu had termed the campaign as a "finest example of cooperative federalism.
"We should set aside politics and work together to make Delhi, which is a mini-India, clean," he had pointed.
The Delhi Chief Minister also hailed the campaign as "the true spirit of cooperative federalism" and said "political divisions" should not deter us from acting in public good.
During the 10 days of the campaign, the three municipal corporations received around 38,000 complaints of garbage on the Swachh Delhi app.
