Concerned over environmental impact of stainless steel pickling industries, the National Green Tribunal has directed Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to take legal action against the erring industries which are not complying with mandatory pollution standards.
A bench, headed by Justice U D Salvi, also directed DPCC to dispose all the applications for consent to operate which have been pending with it within two weeks.
The matter is listed for hearing on October 14.
"We direct the DPCC to dispose of all the pending applications and matters arising out of show cause notices and replies thereto within two weeks from today in accordance with law. We also direct the Wazirpur Industrial Estate Welfare Society to take such adequate measures as to present proper representation of each and every individual industry before DPCC...," the bench said.
"DPCC is also directed to take appropriate legal action against such industries which have earned deemed consent but are not complying with the standards prescribed by law," it said.
Earlier, DPCC had issued closure notices to several industrial units, mainly steel pickling units, in the Wazirpur Industrial Area for discharging harmful effluents in drains that empty in the Yamuna.
