Talcher hottest with 44.6 deg C, sunstroke toll 14 in Odisha

Odisha's coal town of Talcher continued to be the hottest place in the state for the second consecutive day today with mercury level remaining static at 44.6 degrees Celsius as heat wave conditions prevailed in most parts of the state, while 14 people have died so far of sunstroke.
However, the number of alleged sunstroke death cases has increased to 151, of which 14 have been confirmed as heat- related ones, a report from the office of the Special Relief Commissioner said.
Talcher was the hottest place in the state at 44.6 deg C, followed by Jharsuguda at 44.3 deg C.
Other places which experienced the heatwave were Bolangir and Bhawanipatna with 43.5 deg C each, Titlagarh (43), Sambalpur (42.8), Keonjhar (42.5) and Dhenkanal (42), the Met officer here said.
The maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar today was 40.8 deg C against 40.1 deg C yesterday, it said adding relative humidity at 90 per cent caused lot of sweating.
Meanwhile, a bulletin issued by the Met office said the heatwave condition would prevail for two more days while thundersquall may happen at some places in the state.
