His novel "Angyadi" is set in late 19th century Tamil Nadu. It is based on extensive research and revolves around a common man's travails arising out of a mix of caste, religion and politics.
"I am very happy. This is the seven award for my novel Angyadi. Six other bodies including Tamil perayam had earlier chosen this novel for their awards," Poomani told PTI over phone from Kovilpatti in southern Tamil Nadu.
The novel was published in 2012 by Kriya Publications.
