Tata Steel drive to combat dengue

Amid dengue scare in several parts of Odisha, Tata Steel is proactive in its coordination with government agencies to ensure hygienic and safe conditions for the dwellers in Jajpur district.
"We are ensuring the best possible hygienic conditions at our site of operations at Kalinganagar which is spread over 1,700 acres, engaging close to 40,000 workers on a daily basis to ensure a check on the outbreak," Tata Steel said in a statement today.
To control the situation, the steel major has formed a task force with experts in the field from Odisha and Jamshedpur operations in cognisance with local administration to contain the outbreak, it said.
The initiatives undertaken to combat dengue include tie- up with a renowned entomologist. A team of over 100 specialised manpower and technical team under the leadership of a renowned entomologist, Dr Alok Suman Sharma, are executing the operations as per the guidelines of National Vector-borne Disease Control Programme, it said.
A task force comprising experts from urban services team in Jamshedpur along with the medical team of Occupational Health Services, Aakar - an NGO and members of Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) with modern equipment are taking proactive measures to check the spread of dengue both inside plant premises and in Kalinganagar area, it said.
Larvicidal spray, anti-adult measures like fogging is going on, it said adding over 50 teams, in coordination with District and State level health department officials, are executing Dengue prevention activities at its plant site.
Besides, workers and line mangers working at Tata Steel plant at Kalinganagar are religiously using mosquito repellant cream at the site.
For dengue prevention measure, an array of 70 machines, including portable insecticide sprayers, portable thermal fogging machines, portable cold fogging machines and truck mounted fogging machine has been put to work.
