The Mumbai-based steel giant had clocked sales of 2.11 MT in the year-ago period, it said in a regulatory filing.
In the first half of 2015-16 fiscal, sales grew by 6 per cent to 4.48 MT against 4.21 MT in the same period of 2014-15, it added.
Saleable steel production increased by 9 per cent to 2.41 MT in the second quarter of 2015-16 from 2.21 MT in the same quarter of 2014-15. For the April-September period, the output rose by 4 per cent to 4.64 MT from 4.46 in the first 6 months of 2014-15.
Tata Steel registered hot metal production of 2.66 MT in July-September 2014-15, a rise of 3 per cent y-o-y and 5.25 MT in April-September, up by 3 per cent y-o-y.
"Best-ever automotive sales of 0.366 MT in Q2 (previous best 0.341 MT in Q2 FY'15) and best ever H1 sales of 0.702 MT (previous best 0.669 MT in H1 FY'15)," Tata Steel said.
