Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) staged protests against cooking gas price hike here today and demanded that the union government roll back the decision.
TDP activists, led by MLA and Krishna district unit president D Umamaheswara Rao, held a protest by blocking traffic on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad national highway at Gollapudi here.
Speaking on the occasion, Rao criticised UPA's economic policies benefit only the rich and burden the poor.
Later, the police removed them from the highway to ease traffic flow and shifted them to a local police station.
Meanwhile, CPM workers, led by its city unit president Babu Rao, staged a sit-in in protest at the sub-collector's office by opposing the gas price increase.
CPM leaders also cooked food at the place by using firewood as a form of protest.
