The unidentified youth shot dead the cashier Sumon Telenga (30) inside the garden road while he was carrying the money meant for the division from its headquarters under Pulibor police station, Jorhat's Superintendent of Police Amanjeet Kaur said.
As the three assailants tried to flee with the money after the crime, the garden labourers caught hold of one of them and lynched him on the spot, she said.
Meanwhile, irate labourers of Sokolating Tea Estate owned by the Halmira Group Ltd later blocked NH 37 demanding security.
The Sokolating Tea Estate manager Rupam Phukan has been picked up by police, the SP said, adding, the two other alleged assailants were arrested but were badly injured.
They have been admitted to Jorhat Medical College Hospital in critical condition, she added.
