Paying eloquent tributes to teachers, Gogoi speaking at the 51st Teachers' Day celebrated centrally here, said "The teachers are the real moulders of society and they are the ones who can help build a prosperous and progressive society".

"The role of the teachers is pivotal for the growth and prosperity of society. As they are the architect of modern Assam, they have to shoulder heavy responsibilities in the days ahead", Gogoi said.

Terming education as the prime mover of society, Gogoi said, "Education can help solve all problems be it unemployment, poverty and illiteracy. It can bring about a congenial atmosphere by spreading the messages of peace, love and understanding among all segments of the population".

"In this context, the teachers have a great role to play in bringing an end to the cult of violence and ushering in durable and lasting peace in the state through the powerful medium of education", he said.

Stating education can bring about a revolution in the socio-economic sphere and not agitation, the Chief Minister said the government has initiated a slew of measures to bring about qualitative changes in the education sector.

The Government would set up a Teachers' Advisory Council and Teachers-Guardians' Coordination Committee to tone up the education system, Gogoi said.

To inculcate a scientific temperament among the students, the government is contemplating setting up of science clubs.
