The Delhi High Court today extended till August 22 the interim bail of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and his MLA-son Ajay Chautala, sentenced to ten years in prison in the teachers recruitment case.
A bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul extended the bail while giving time to CBI to verify the medical reports filed by the Chautalas.
The court also extended the bail of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MLA Sher Singh Badshami till August 22 and that of Om Prakash Chautala's former Officer on Special Duty Vidya Dhar till August 8.
CBI was asked by the court to file status reports on the bail pleas of Badshami and Vidya Dhar.
Senior advocate Hariharan and advocate Amit Sahni, who appeared for the Chautalas, submitted that as per the report of the Medical Superintendent of Medanta Hospital, O P Chautala has to undergo further medical tests for the various ailments he is suffering from.
They also submitted a report by a cardiologist of the same hospital to seek extension of Ajay Chautala's interim bail.
Meanwhile, CBI informed the court that O P Chautala is no longer in the ICU of the hospital, but is still admitted there as a patient.
On July 11, 2014, the high court had reserved its verdict on the appeals of 55 convicts, including the Chautalas, in the Junior Basic Teachers recruitment scam case.
On January 22, 2013, a special CBI court had convicted and sentenced Om Prakash Chautala, his son Ajay and eight others, including Vidya Dhar and Badshami, to 10 years jail term each for illegally recruiting 3,206 junior teachers in the year 2000.
Among other convicts, 44 have been sentenced to four years in jail and one to a five-year jail term.
All of them were held guilty of cheating, forgery, using fake documents as genuine, conspiracy under IPC and of abusing their official position under Prevention of Corruption Act.
