The boy was apprehended after the incident. During interrogation, he told police that he took the step to save his mother, a police official said.
"The boy has been sent to a correction home after being produced before a juvenile justice board," DCP (Outer) Vikramjit Singh said.
According to police, the incident took place on Monday afternoon when the boy's father returned home in an inebriated state and started abusing his mother. Soon, the boy intervened and entered into a heated argument with his father, which soon turned into a scuffle.
During interrogation, the boy told police that his father was an alcoholic and often used to abuse and assault his mother. He claimed to have taken the step to save his mother, an official said.
