"The constable has been placed under suspension and an enquiry into the matter has been initiated. Further action shall be taken accordingly," said DCP (Outer) Vikramjit Singh.
The protesters placed the body of the deceased, identified as Rajan on NH1 and cried slogans against Delhi Police.
The teenager was allegedly thrashed by constable Pramod Kumar (26), posted at Narela police station in north-west Delhi, at a Dussehra fair on October 21.
Kumar, who was deployed at the fair, intervened and allegedly beat up the boy, said a police official.
When the boy collapsed, a police team rushed him to Raja Harish Chandra Hospital from where he was later referred to LNJP hospital.
"A preliminary medical report revealed that the teenager had extremely high blood sugar and he went into a diabetic coma, which is a life threatening complication," said the official, adding that the constable's role will anyway be probed and action will be taken if the allegations are found to be correct.
The angry locals, protesting against the incident, pelted stones on a police team.
However, no casualties have been reported and no case of rioting has yet been registered, said a police official.
The situation came under control after senior officials, including the DCP, intervened and assured them justice, the official added.
