Tejaswini bags two gold in Shooting Nationals

Former world champion and double Commonwealth Games gold medalist Tejaswini Sawant of Maharashtra won both the individual and team titles in the women's 50m rifle prone event at the 58th National Shooting Championships here today.
Tejaswini shot a total of 622 in the final rounds to edge out Elizabeth Susan Koshy of Kerala who finished a point behind in the individual event. Army markswoman Raj Chaudhary ended third with a score of 616 at the Balewadi Shooting Range.
In the men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event, Haryana's Harpreet Singh struck gold shooting a total of 22 in the six-man final series, finishing ahead of Neeraj Kumar (21) and Gurpreet Singh (19), both representing the Indian Army.
Olympic silver medalist Vijay Kumar failed to qualify for the final round of the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event, after finishing eighth in qualifying with a score of 562.
Vijay, however, combined with his Army teammates to win gold in the team event.
In the women's 50m Rifle Prone team event, Tejaswini combined with Deepali Deshpande and Priyal Keni to shoot a total of 1837 to win the gold for Maharashtra.
Meena Kumari, Anjum Moudgil and Saini of Haryana shot 1830 to win the silver while Tejaswini Muley, Ruchira Lawand and Anuja Jung of Railways bagged the bronze with a score of 1822.
In the men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol team event, the Army Marksmanship Unit represented by Gurpreet Singh, Vijay Kumar and Vijesh Kumar won gold with a total score of 1706.
The silver medal went to Maharashtra team of Shivraj Sase, Akshay Suhas Ashtaputre and Vikrant Ghaisas who shot a total of 1690 while Rahul Panwar, Omkar Singh and Yogesh Singh representing the Navy won the bronze with a combined score of 1636.
