Mumbai-Based NGO Apnalaya will be a beneficiary of Sachin Tendulkar's autobiography 'Playing it My Way' as proceeds from its sale will be given to the organisation for fighting malnutrition in children.
"Sachin has committed a part of his proceeds from the sale of the autobiography to Apnalaya in their fight against Malnutrition in Children and provision of clean drinking water. The autobiography is scheduled for release on November 6," Apnalaya said in a press release.
Tendulkar has been involved in supporting the initiatives of Apnalaya over the last two decades and is committing a minimum of Rs 25 lakh from the book sale proceeds.
Founded in 1973, Apnalaya has worked with five slum communities in Mumbai and has been focused on improving their quality of life.
Commenting on the support extended by Sachin, through the proceeds of his autobiography, Dr Aparna Santhanam, Secretary of the Apnalaya Board said, "Sachin has been our silent supporter for a long time and all of us at Apnalaya are thankful to him for making us a part of his autobiography. This contribution will help in enhancing our efforts in two critical areas -- malnutrition in children and provision of clean drinking water through community self help groups, both in the existing communities where we are engaged as also in initiating work in new communities.
