Three people were charred to death and one other injured after their car caught fire on the Lebad-Nayagaon highway near Roopnagar area in the district, police said today.
The deceased were identified as Arun Stephen and Rakesh (both locals) and Rohit, a resident of Chittorgarh in Rajasthan, police said.
Vikas Narwale, hailing from Chittorgarh, who sustained burn wounds, told the police that all of them were en route to Chittorgarh, when they met with the accident, the SP said.
The incident occurred at around 2 A.M. In Jawra area, City Superintendent of Police Dipak Shukla told PTI.
The fire broke out in their car all of a sudden, it did not give them time even to escape, he said adding Vikas was pulled out of the burning car by the police with the help of some villagers.
Policemen from the Dhodhar police checkpost reached the spot immediately and broke glass windows of the car to rescue Vikas.
Initial investigations indicate that a vehicle might have hit the car from the rear where its gas kit was placed. Possibly, the impact of the hit ignited the fire, police sources said.
Bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem while Vikas has been admitted to a hospital and further probe is on, Shukla said.
