Three held at IGIA for smuggling gold

Three people, including an airport staffer, were today apprehended for allegedly smuggling 1kg gold from Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.
The incident occured at around 9:15 AM when CISF sleuths detected suspicious activities of a flier coming from Dubai as he entered a washroom in the terminal area after landing.
At the same time, the sleuths noticed an employee of a foreign airliner's ground staff entering the same bathroom, following the flier identified as Kerala resident Milash.
A 1kg gold bar, wrapped and concealed in the shape of a mobile phone, was recovered from the airport staffer. The estimated value of the seized yellow metal is Rs 28 lakh.

"On further inquiry, Akhil Singh (airport staffer) revealed that the gold was handed over to him by Milash and he was supposed to hand over the same gold to one Jamsher Abubakr who was waiting near the arrival gate," Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) spokesperson Hemendra Singh said.
"All the three and the seized gold were handed over to Customs officials by the airport security officials," he said.
