In three separate incidents, two women suffering from depression and and an unidentified man allegedly committed suicide in the city, police said today.
In the first incident, a 35-year-old woman Ekta Babbar, who used to provide artistes for film and television serials, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from her 16th floor flat of 'Green Acres' apartments in the upscale Lokhandwala Complex area of suburban Andheri last night, police said.
"Babbar was suffering from depression. Her father had died six months back and she was staying with her mother in the flat. Her mother was in her bedroom when she jumped from her bedroom," said Subhash Wele, senior inspector at Oshiwara police station.
Although investigators are trying to ascertain the cause behind her depression and suicide, a police officer said that she had no business assignments in hand for the past few months as a result of which she was in low spirits.
In the second incident, one Bina Vajrani (44) leaped from the balcony of the sixth floor of Oceanic Building at Peddar Road in south Mumbai around 2.30 AM today when she was alone at home, police said.
Senior inspector Rajaram Prabhu at Gamdevi police station said, "The victim's retired father Gulabrai has claimed in his statement that Bina had been under psychiatric care for the past few years and had just moved into her cousin's house on Peddar Road around three days ago."
In the third incident, an unidentified man was found hanging from a grill with a wire on the premises of a civic-run KEM hospital at Bhoiwada this morning, police said.
"It appears to be a case of suicide. Deceased's description details have been sent to all the police stations. Enquiries are on to identify him," an officer from Bhoiwada police station said.
