Acting on a tip-off that a group of miscreants could commit dacoity in the Chanpur area, a contingent of police led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Dharmanagar, Rajdwip De went to the area last night.
When police spotted that a group of about five miscreants with lethal weapons moving in the area, they challenged the miscreants and who fired upon police and police also retaliated by opening five rounds.
The miscreants managed to escape. Later searching the area recovered one country made pistol and one country made rifle, knives, a few masks and arrested three suspected miscreants from the area.
