A delegation of Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) MPs arrived here today, to probe the gangrape of a tribal woman who is recuperating at a district hospital.
The tribal woman was allegedly gangraped by nearly ten people at the instance of her husband, after a land dispute at Bhiali Kheda village in the district recently.
The TMC delegation comprising three Lok Sabha MPs and two Rajya Sabha MPs, were led by Sukendu Sekhar Ray.
Other members of the TMC delegation were Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Uma Soren, Aprita Ghosh and Rajya Sabha MP Nadimul Haq.
Terming the incident as totally inhuman, Ray told reporters, "It has nothing to do with politics, nor is it politically motivated. The incident is highly condemnable, inhuman and against all women."
"We have arrived here on the directive of West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC President Mamata Banerjee. We will hand over our report on the issue to her," Ray said.
The TMC MPs' visit to Madhya Pradesh is the fallout of a BJP central team's recent visit to West Bengal's violence prone areas, after which Mamata decided to send her party's delegation to the BJP-ruled state.
On June 13, a tribal woman in Madhya Pradesh was allegedly gangraped by ten people, including her husband, paraded naked and forced to drink urine in front of her minor son, after a village land dispute, a police official said, on the basis of the survivor's complaint.
After the woman lodged a complaint alleging that her husband engineered the attack, all the accused were nabbed.
However, her husband alleged that his wife has levelled baseless allegations against him and other villagers, due to a land dispute.
