"They are indulging in lies and the person who is making wild allegations against us takes pride in saying he is Lal Bahadur Shastri's grandson," Trinamool Congress youth wing president and party supremo Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee said at a party rally here without naming Singh.
"I feel ashamed that he is Lal Bahadur Shastri's grandson," Banerjee said in an obvious reference to Singh, who is the BJP leader in-charge of political affairs in Bengal.
Expressing suspicion that the alleged suicide attempt by suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh on Friday was a political conspiracy to suppress evidence in the Saradha ponzi scam, Singh had in his latest salvo against the ruling party demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
Alleging that "the Narendra Modi government has failed to deliver despite making tall promises," Banerjee said "they had said before general elections that 'achche din aane wale hain', but we have not seen any such thing happen."
Attacking the BJP in the state, Banerjee said "there is no place for communalism in the state. We have to keep in mind how they are trying to spread unrest in Bengal," he said.
"In every state they (BJP) have indulged in creating a divide between Hindus and Muslims, but they will not succeed here," he said.
"Our leader (Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee) has been working for 18-20 hours a day for the development of the state, while they are trying to stall all such activities by trying to create unrest. They will not succeed," Banerjee said.
