Commissioner of Police, Barrackpore Police Commissionerate, Niroj Singh said Usha Singh was first rushed to a private nursing here which referred her to a hospital in Kolkata.
Later the couple's son Pawan lodged an FIR at Jagatdal police station saying his cousin Sourav Singh had suddenly entered his mother's room and fired at her.
Sourav Singh is absconding since the incident, he said.
The MLA is away from the country.
