CPI (M) state unit Secretary G Ramakrishnan claimed that this was the fourth such incident after the government had recently ruled out the need for a separate law to deal with honour killings.
"Chief Minister O Panneerselvam had said (in the Assembly) that there had been no honour killing and therefore such a law was not required. But this is the fourth such incident within two weeks of his announcement," he said in a statement.
A 19-year-old girl, who had eloped and married a boy of another caste, was allegedly murdered by her father in Sivaganga recently.
