Top police officers discuss measures to tackle Maoist menace

Top police officers of seven Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected states met here today and discussed about measures to tackle Maoist menace, an official said.

The Inter-state Co-Ordination Meeting on LWE hit states was held under the chairmanship of K Vijaya Kumar, senior security advisor, Ministry of Home Affairs. The meeting discussed on a wide range of issues relating to inter-state coordination to effectively combat the LWE menace.

"The officers suggested to further synchronise the inter-state coordination in regard to LWE activities," a senior official said.

"The officers actively participated in the deliberation and put forth useful suggestions to further coordination, intelligence sharing and others required to achieve the goal," Odisha DGP R P Sharma told reporters after the meeting.

Sharma said this meeting is being held for the first time in Odisha.

Among other issues, the officers discussed on the coordination in deployment of security forces across the border, joint/coordinated anti-LWE operation in the inter- state border areas and intelligence sharing.

Kumar expressed his satisfaction over the anti-Maoist operation in Odisha and praised the SPs of LWE hit districts of the state.

Arun Kumar, Special DGP, BSF, A B Venkateswar Rao, ADGP (Intelligence) Andhra Pradesh, Mahendra Kumar Reddy, DGP Telengana, DM Awasti, Spl DGP (operation), Chhattisgarh, Rajiv Mishra, IGP Western Zone, West Bengal, Ashok Raj, ADGP (L&O), Bihar, RK Mallick, ADGP, Jharkhand, Veenita Sharma, joint director, SIB, Bhubaneswar attended the meeting.
