Torrential rains lashed different parts of West Bengal bringing down day's temperature with the weatherman forecast more downpour in the next two days.
The Himalayan town of Darjeeling received the state's highest rainfall of 63.4 mm since yesterday, while in Kolkata the rainfall amounted to 31.7 mm, the MeT department said.
Heavy morning downpour in the metropolis brought down the day's highest temperature to 27.1 degrees Celsius, seven degrees below normal and more than 13 degrees lower than that experienced on Saturday when the highest temperature in the city reached 40.2 degrees.
An overcast sky throughout the day brought a much-deserved respite to the denizens of the city, where high day and night temperatures coupled with high humidity had made life miserable.
Day temperatures in other parts of the state also remained below normal due to overnight rains or morning showers.
The temperatures at Asansol, Bankura, Burdwan and Sriniketan stood at 34.6 deg C, 33.1 deg C, 33.0 deg C and 30.7 deg C, respectively.
In sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar recorded the day's highest temperatures at 30.4 deg C and 30.5 deg C, respectively.
The Met department has forecast generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rains for the next two days in Gangetic West Bengal along with the metropolis.
The sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri are poised to experience heavy rains in the next two days as per the Met department forecast.
