A total of 48 tourism projects have been sanctioned for Jammu under central funding of Rs 200 crore, Jammu and Kashmir government said today.
"48 projects of tourism have been sanctioned for the region under central funding amounting to Rs 200 crore," State Tourism Minister G A Mir told the Assembly in reply to a question of JSM member Ashwani Sharma.
Opposition members of JKNPP and JSM had alleged discrimination with the region in building of tourist infrastructure and its promotion.
Mir said the promotion of tourism in Jammu region has been given focused attention by creation of infrastructure related to tourism.
He referred to the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu, and the seven tourism development authorities in Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Patnitop, Surinsar-Mansar, Poonch, Lakhanpur-Sarthal and Rajouri and the work being done by them in this regard.
This included creation of tourism related infrastructure like dormitories, way side facilities, public convenience view points, rain shelter sheds and cafeterias for convenience of tourists visiting different destinations.
The minister highlighted efforts to promote tourism in the state through travel fairs both in the country and abroad, cultural programmes, trade fairs, workshops, roadshows, snow festivals, etc.
When JKNPP member Harshdev Singh said government had failed to boost tourism in the border areas, the minister said development of a tourism circuit for Suchetgarh border in Jammu had been sanctioned by the Centre at a cost of Rs 6.39 crore with about Rs 5.11 crore already spent on the project.
