Tourists visiting the famous Thiruvalluvar statue and Vivekananda Rock here will now have to shell out more for the ferry service following a steep hike in diesel price.
The ordinary fare has been increased from Rs 34 to Rs 50 and the special fare from Rs 169 to Rs 200 in view of the increase in price of the fuel, an official release said.
The Thiruvalluvar statue is a 133-foot tall stone sculpture of Tamil poet and philosopher Tiruvalluvar, author of the treatise 'Tirukkural' and is located about 400 metres off Kanyakumari coast.
Vivekananda Rock Memorial has been built in the memory of Indian spiritual leader and philosopher Swami Vivekananda. It is around half a kilometre on a small island like rock, away from the shore of Kanyakumari.
