A delegation of Bhartiya Private Transport Mazdoor Mahasangh, a unit of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), today met Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, demanding a rollback of recent "steep" hike in fees of fitness certificates besides other services.
The union has also given one-month ultimatum to the ministry to rollback increased fees and threatened a country-wide protest against the Centre's decision.
"The hike is not in favour of people including drivers of auto, taxis, trucks. We have given the one-month ultimatum to the Centre to withdraw increased fees or else, we will launch a protest across the country thereafter," Rajendra Soni, vice-president of Bhartiya Private Transport Mazdoor Mahasangh, said.
Mahasangh's general secretary Shyam Lal Gola said the Centre should immediately rollback the fee hike.
Earlier this month, the Union Transport Ministry had increased driving licence fees by five times besides raising fitness certificate fees for autorickshaws and taxis from Rs 200 and Rs 300, respectively to Rs 600.
