Trident gets green nod for Rs 440 cr paper mill expansion proj

Trident has received environment clearance for expansion of its paper mill with improved technology and energy efficiency in Punjab's Barnala district, entailing a cost of Rs 440 crore.
The company, which was established in 1993, has proposed upgradation of paper machines to increase production of paper from 1,35,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) to 2,10,000 TPA and increase captive co-generation plant from 45.9 MW to 90.9 MW.
"Based on the recommendations of the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC), the Environment Ministry has given environment clearance to the Trident Ltd for its paper mill expansion project," a senior government official said.
The clearance to the project has been given subject to certain conditions, the official said.

The cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 440 crore. No additional land would be required and the company is likely to employ 100 people.
Besides, Trident Group has a textile mill as well as a sulphuric acid plant. The group is a USD 1 billion enterprise with a head account of over 10,000 and provides indirect employment to 20,000 people.
