Trump has momentum, could win: Romney

Mitt Romney, who led an anti- Donald Trump campaign during the Republican primaries, has said the party's presidential nominee has "momentum" and could win the White House race but is facing "some tough headwinds".
"To be honest, it's very possible in my view that Trump wins," Romney, who was the Republican presidential nominee in 2012 general elections, told the Free Radio GOP in an interview earlier this month.
Romney had led the anti-Trump campaign during the primaries by calling him phony.
He had even urged the other Republican presidential hopeful to join hands against Trump. In protest, Romney also did not attend the Republican National Convention in Cleveland last week.

In the interview, which he gave before the Cleveland convention, Romney gave credit to Trump for winning the crowded race of 17 candidates.
"You have to give Donald Trump credit, he was able to bring a rhetoric and a style that he had perfected over his career to the political sphere and connect with people and become the nominee," Romney said.

"Despite the fact that I and a lot of other people thought he would not be an ideal nominee, he is. At this stage, it's rougher going, but I can't predict what's gonna happen," Romney was quoted as saying in the transcripts provided by BuzzFeed.

Romney said he believes Trump might win the elections, even though it might not be a landslide.
"I wouldn't think it'd be by a landslide, but I think he could win. I think he could lose, I think he could lose by a landslide," he said.
"But, I don't know which it's going to be and a lot of that depends on what happens to Hillary Clinton. Is there a meltdown moment, or some implosion of some kind?" Trump noted.
Romney said Trump's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton is an awful candidate.
"She's an awful candidate. People don't trust her, they don't like in my view she comes across as not being at all authentic," he argued.

"I think she's a really challenged candidate and the unfavorable numbers that she has suggest that it is not going well for her, so, she could lose this. Right now, Donald Trump has momentum, but he's facing some tough headwinds, but Hillary Clinton is also facing headwinds," Romney said.
