In the first order of its kind by the Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC), TV channel UTV Bindass has been asked to run an apology scroll every two hours for four days after complaints of vulgar and indecent programming were upheld against it.
Officials said the BCCC, which is the self-regulatory body of the television industry, had recieved complaints of unsuitable content in two episodes of 'Emotional Atyachaar' shown on UTV Bindass June 25 and July 2, 2011.
Officials said while the BCCC began examining the matter, a petition related to the content of the programme was also filed in the Delhi High Court. The High court had on April 9 this year asked the BCCC to pass directions in the matter after which it again took it up.
Officials said it was found that 'Emotional Atyachaar' was based on the theme of testing loyalty and infidelty of a partner by another who suspects it.
The channel plants a model on the suspect to lure him or her and captured the intimate moves between them, scenes which were shown to the partner who is suspicious. The show finally culminates in a fight between suspecting and cheating partner, the BCCC order said.
The self regulatory TV body felt the incidents and dialogues in the two episodes were "vulgar and indecent and not fit for viewing by children".
Feeling that serious issues of privacy were also involved, the BCCC concluded the content of the episodes "violated" guidelines and decided to issue a warning to the channel.
The channel has also been asked to run an apology scroll every two hours for a period of four days from 12 noon on July 15 to 10 am on July 18, officials said.
An official said while the BCCC had the power to ask a channel to run an apology scroll, this was the first time it was used.
