Last week, a complaint filed by a Faridabad resident at Vasant Vihar police station said the trio charged Rs 1.20 lakh on the pretext of a job in the US, said Ishwar Singh, DCP(south).
Complainant Siddhant told police that he was in touch with some agencies in connection with a job and got a mail confirming him a job in the US. Later, he got a call by a person named Peter Coal on whose instruction he gave Rs 20,000 as visa fee to his alleged secretary Ruchi Batra at C Block market in Vasant Vihar, on October 11.
However, he got suspicious when he learnt that TOFEL certificate was obtained after clearing a test, and approached police. A police team laid a trap and apprehended Ruchi who came to collect remaining amount from the complainant on October 17, said the officer.
During interrogation, Ruchi claimed her real name as Alisha Ali. She told police that she worked with two African nationals who used to interact with job seekers and promise them jobs in foreign countries.
Meanwhile, a police team was dispatched to nab them. In raid at a restaurant near Safdarjang hospital, the duo Boby Brown Francis and Abdel K Cooper, kingpin behind the racket were arrested, he said.
Cooper is native of Ghana while Francis is from Benin. Rs 20,000 cash and passport of the complainant was recovered from them, added the officer.
