An improvised explosive device, three grenades, and two 9 mm pistols were recovered from the slain ultras after the encounter last night, they said.
Based on intelligence inputs, the Armys's Red Horns Division and the police launched a joint operation near Kongkhal village close to the Assam-Meghalaya border and the two were killed in the operation, a Defence release said.
Areas along the inter-state border have seen a sudden spurt in subversive activities by insurgent groups such as ULFA (Independent) and GNLA in recent weeks, the release said.
