Two persons have been arrested from Nagpur in Maharashtra for allegedly cheating five local persons of Rs 9.75 lakh under the pretext of offering them jobs in the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) project, police said today.
The accused, identified as Rakesh P and K Kavitha, were picked by a Cyber Crimes team yesterday, Rachakonda Commissioner of Police Mahesh M Bhagwat said.
He said the bank account in which five victims had deposited the money is in the name of Kavitha.
"In March this year, Rakesh sent messages to the victims informing them of job openings in HMRL. They conducted mock interviews over telephone in a bid to make them believe that they will get appointment orders soon. They collected Rs 9.75 lakh from the five persons," the commissioner said.
The victims realised that they were cheated after the accused duo stopped taking their calls or responding to e-mails.
Police used technical and electronic evidence to trace Rakesh and Kavitha.
Rakeh had earlier worked in various projects of a construction major and has a thorough knowledge of the recruitment procedure.
