A 46-year-old man was also arrested in connection with the case, they said.
The body of a 62-year-old woman was found in her house by her 10-year-old adopted son on August 20, the police said.
The woman's adopted son told police that when he reached the house, the main gate was closed from inside. After sometime, a man opened the door from inside and fled, they said.
The police were informed and after questioning the family members, the accused was identified as Nitesh Kumar, the grandson of the victim's friend.
The victim would consider Kumar as her own grandson and he would visit her home along with his grandmother, the police said, adding he got involved in petty thefts and addicted to smoking cannabis after coming in contact with certain anti- social elements.
On August 20, he went to the woman's house and killed her with a grinding stone. He took the victim's earrings and some other jewellery. He had given the gold rings and silver chain to one Farooque who ran a tea shop in Loni, the police said.
Kumar and Farooque have been arrested, they said.
