Two suspected drug peddlers from Punjab were arrested on Saturday with 30 kilograms of poppy straw, police said.
A truck, bearing a Haryana registration number, was signalled to stop at the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Ramban district, but the driver accelerated the speed and tried to flee from the spot, a police spokesperson said.
The police personnel chased the truck and managed to stop it at some distance, he said, adding that two gunny bags containing 30 kilograms of poppy straw were seized from the vehicle's tool box.
A case has been registered against the driver, Sonu Singh, and helper, Gurinder Singh, both residents of Punjab's Kapurthala village, under relevant sections of law, he said.
