The incident occurred when a pick up van and a SUV, which was carrying members of a marriage party, collided head on, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Chatarpur), Samir Tirkey.
The SUV fell in a road-side ditch, he said adding, the driver of an approaching truck also lost control over his vehicle near the spot and fell over the SUV.
Two persons were killed on the spot, while nine others sustained injuries in the mishap, the DSP said.
