"Friends! Which of these two is more popular -- Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri or Harish Rawat" -- by posting this question on social networking site Facebook, leading Uttarakhand folk singer Narendra Singh Negi has set off a new debate.
Those who voted in favour of BJP MP from Pauri and former chief minister Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri feel strongly that he would have developed the state.
However, Rawat's supporters feel drawing a comparison between the two is not fair.
In reply to the popular folk singer's question posted on the social networking site two days back, one of Khanduri's admireres, Ganesh Nautiyal, said,"If Khanduri was at the helm of affairs in the state for 10 years, things would definitely have improved."
"Narayan Dutt Tiwari tried to take the state forward on the path of development. No one after him did much for the state. However, Khanduri had the intention to drive the state on growth track but he did not get enough time.
"His honesty is still remembered by people of the state," another Khanduri admirer Vinod Rauthan said.
However, some people feel Rawat is more popular.
According to them, Rawat is a politician while Khanduri is a retired Army General and there can be no comparison between them.
"No comparison between the two leaders is possible. One is a politician while the other is an Army General (retd)," a Rawat supporter wrote on FB.
"Rawat is popular, Khanduri is not because he is an army general. Rawat can be compared only with leaders like Narendra Modi," another Rawat fan wrote.
