The UN has expressed concern over the incident of a woman in Rajasthan paraded half-naked and other cases of women's rights violations in India, hoping that the matter will be investigated.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's spokesperson Farhan Haq said the UN is aware of reports that a 40-year-old woman was stripped and paraded half-naked on a donkey after people in a Rajasthan village suspected she was involved in killing her nephew.
"We would hope that they will be looked into. And it's certainly a cause for concern, because women's rights should be upheld around the world," Haq told reporters when asked about the incident as well as about the increasing cases of women's rights violations in India.
A woman was allegedly paraded half naked on a donkey by Panchayat members in Jaipur on the suspicion of being involved in a murder case on Saturday. A case was registered against 39 people in the matter following a complaint filed by the victim's husband on Sunday.
A local court in Rajasthan has sent 35 people to jail and remanded four in police custody over the incident.
