Ruba Rustom Shah (40), accused in a molestation case, bearing serial no 1658, allegedly strangulated himself with help of a towel inside the jail yesterday and was rushed to the hospital ward, Bazarpeth police station inspector M K Tayde said, citing the complaint filed jail authorities.
Tayde said Shah was arrested on February 25 this year in connection with an offence under IPC section 354 A (punishment for sexual harassment) and under POCSO Act.
The accused was later taken to Central Hospital in neighbouring Ulhasnagar where the doctors declared him brought dead.
