An undertrial Fiji national, who came to India on a medical emergency in 2011 and settled in the national capital, has been arrested for illegally staying in India, police said today.
The accused, Imshad Izrar Ali, worked as a pilot in Fiji from 2002 to 2007 and was charged with murder and making a hoax bomb call in separate cases in his country.
According to police, Khanka Singh, a native of Manipur, had lodged a police complaint at Lajpat Nagar police station on September 10 regarding his daughter going missing.
"The girl was located in Masjid Moth area, where she was found living with the accused.
"Investigations revealed that Ali had worked as a pilot in Fiji from 2002 to 2007. In 2007, he allegedly made a hoax bomb call in an aeroplane in Naidi, Fiji, following which he was charged under Civil Aviation Act in his country," said Mandeep S Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East District).
During interrogation, Ali disclosed that in 2009 he was arrested for allegedly killing his partner and in this case, he was granted bail on medical grounds by a Fiji court.
"In January 2011, he came to India on medical visa for treatment of ureta and stone problem. During his stay in India, he came into contact with the girl and started living in with her after they developed a relationship," Randhawa said, adding further probe into the case is on.
