BJP leader and Union Minister Babul Supriyo was allegedly heckled by Trinamool Congress activists today when he along with his parents went to cast vote at a polling station here.
Nobody was arrested in connection with the incident and the Kolkata Police has initiated a probe into the matter.
A huge crowd gathered when Babul arrived at Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya in the Sovabazar area to cast his vote along with his parents.
The Union Minister of state for Urban Development faced opposition from alleged TMC activists who screamed "Go back, Go back" slogans "for attracting crowd" there following which, there was a spat between them.
Some protesters alleged that Babul was not a voter of the constituency and was "vitiating atmosphere".
"I came here to vote as a common man, not as a minister. There was not a single security person with me, nor any BJP worker. But, these people started protesting on something which was absolutely not needed," Babul said.
The Union Minister also alleged there were no police personnel present at the polling booth.
Supriyo also chased and caught hold of one of the activists who allegedly abused him while he was coming out of the booth after casting his vote.
"There was some protest by some people when Babul Supriyo arrived here today to cast his vote. We have heard that some persons also pushed him. Nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident. We are looking into the matter," a senior officer of the Kolkata Police said.
