He may be all of 20 but when it comes to utilising his spare time off the field, former India U-19 captain Unmukt Chand is a chip off the old block compared to his contemporaries as he spend time penning his World Cup memories as well as reading some quality books.
Post IPL, it has been a well-deserved break for Unmukt, who was playing non-stop for more than one year.
"I have finished reading C.L.R. James' Beyond A Boundary and it's been a delightful experience. It's an amazing book. I never knew so much about West Indies cricket that I have come to know now after reading the book. It was about history and the class struggle of the people and you get to know so much more than just cricket," Unmukt, a student of St Stephen's College, told PTI today.
"I am also planning to read Sir Don Bradman's Art of Cricket. I have flipped through the pages but now I would like to read it from start to finish," the Delhi youngster said.
By the end of this year, Unmukt's maiden book on his U-19 days including the World Cup triumph will be hitting the market.
"I have finished my memoirs from the U-19 days. The book is expected to be released by the end of the year," he informed.
On the cricketing front, Unmukt is gearing for the ACC Trophy in Singapore where he will be representing the India U-23 side led by Suryakumar Yadav.
On whether he was disappointed for not making it to the India 'A' side for the South Africa tour, Unmukt said, "Not at all. I will be representing the India U-23 side and for me it's equally big honour. My job is to perform and I will try to do that to the best of my abilities."
Asked about his off-season training, the talented right-hander said,"I took a break for about a week and after that I started training. While I finetuned some technical areas under my coach Sanjay sir (Bhardwaj), I also hired Railways' trainer Maqsood for fitness programme.
