A seven-year-old girl was kidnapped and raped in the neighbouring Basti district, police said today.
A case of rape and kidnapping was registered against unidentified persons while the victim was undergoing treatment in a hospital where her condition was critical, they said.
The incident, which took place in Kalwari area, came to light yesterday morning when villagers found the girl lying unconscious in a field with blood spots on her clothes, police said.
On getting information the parents of the girl reached the spot and informed the police.
The girl was sleeping with her family outside her house the previous night when someone kidnapped her and took her to a field in the night and gagged her so that nobody could hear her shrieks, CO Kalwari, Arvind Kumar said.
