UP declares holiday on Karpoori Thakur's birth anniversary
Press Trust of India Lucknow The Uttar Pradesh government today declared June 24 as public holiday in the state to mark socialist leader Karpoori Thakur's birth anniversary.
Principal Secretary General Administration Archana Agarwal said here in a statement that the birth anniversary of Thakur has been declared as public holiday.
Thakur, former chief minister of Bihar, was one of the socialist leaders close to Jaya Prakash Narayan who spearheaded the movement for 'total revolution' as well as protests against the emergency rule.
